Holy Week in Spain

Today is Palm Sunday, a very important day in many parts of Spain as it marks the beginning of the Holy Week. In cities like Sevilla, Granada, Málaga, Murcia, Madrid, Valladolid and others, beautiful Easter processions start today all through the week until next Sunday, Resurrection Sunday.
.
The highlight is undoubtedly the night from Holy Thursday to Holy Friday, especially in Sevilla where it is known as “La Madrugá”: the six most important processions including the world-famous “Esperanza de Macarena” leave their churches at midnight and pass through the cathedral early in the morning, to be back in their respective churches Friday afternoon. For most of the people of Seville, it is a question of faith to be there. For visitors, it is simply spectacular to watch and experience it – the music, the smell, the lights, the people, the atmosphere… unique.
